The Foundations were from the British West Indies.
The group showed up on the sixties Music scene seemingly out of nowhere and had their first release hit number one in the U.K. and Canada.
Shortly thereafter they hit number one in Australia and New Zealand.
“Build Me up Buttercup’ hit number 10 on the U.S. Billboard chart.
Most Music observers assumed that the group was just another in a long procession of Motown music groups.
The Foundations proved that R&B was not the sole preserve of Motown.
The group did Motown one better in that they played their own instruments.
The group remained intact from 1966 to 1972. Some members wanted to try other styles of music and some were just tired of the road.
Over the time that the group remained together they released 11 albums.
One hit after another. Their music is still enjoyable to this date.
Enjoy
