The Propellerheads are from Bath, Somerset England.
Shirley Bassey is from Cardiff, Wales
Shirley is without doubt one of the finest Jazz singers in the world.
Shirley also sang the Theme song for James Bond ” Goldfinger “
I just thought that I would throw that little nugget of Trivia out to you just in case you are playing Trivia and someone asks you that question.
This weeks’ music is offered by ( Rob Mc )
Rob hopes that everyone will enjoy the song as much as he does.
Most people do not understand Jazz and often say ” they don’t like it “.
I will admit that Jazz can be an acquired taste but a song as strong and as Powerful as ” History Repeating “, should open the door, to at least listening to a Jazz song… now and then.
I would suggest that Shirley Bassey will help in your decision to enjoy Jazz.
When Rob asked me to send History Repeating out, it reminded me of the Film ” Where the Boys Are ” where Frank Gorshin playing the Role of ” Basil ” introduces Himself as a Jazz musician who with his band plays something called ” Dialectic Jazz ” and that they never charge for their shows but the Band pays the audience in Beers.
As beer was Ten cents a glass at that time, you could certainly collect a sizable audience for Ten bucks.
( Frank played the Riddler on the TV Series ” Batman….just more Trivia )
Basil who is the leader and Bass player of the group introduces a song :
“Please, Please ! We don’t want applause. Let’s keep things as un-frantic and cerebral as possible. If you have any questions, ask them during the breaks. The song you just heard was the ” Nuclear Love Song ” composed by our Percussionist. Next is an original of my own, written for the guitar and Flute entitled
” A Meeting between Shakespeare and Satchel Paige on Hampstead Heath”.
As you can see Jazz can be fun… and that reminds me… ” Where the Boys Are ” 1960 was a film very ahead of its’ time. It asks many questions concerning relationships between men and women along with certain morae’s of the times and although it has some funny moments, its’ underlying theme is quite serious.
For the most part the film shocked many critic’s and Film goers.
Below is a fun encounter at the ” Elbow Room “
Basil: Date me, tonight Baby Ruth.
Merritt Andrews: Booked.
Basil: Date me, tonight, Big Girl.
Tuggle Carpenter: I gotta date.
(Basil looks at Angie, says nothing)
Angie: Well, let’s not be insulting.
Basil: Date me, tonight, Short One.
Angie: (smiles) What time?
At the Beach
Ryder: (whose family is super rich and attends Brown U, speaking to TV)
” Women don’t realize what a risk marriage is for men “
TV : ( who is working his way through U Michigan and is broke, answering Ryder)
You can afford to be wrong…I can’t even afford to be right. “
Chill Wills, plays the Sheriff: Listen carefully to his speech to his Patrol Officers
It’s enlightening. A wonderful speech.
I highly recommend the film. The film is extremely tame by today’s standards, but it caused a bit of an uproar at that time by its’ contents. It brought to the forefront of the general public’s consciousness the Springtime ritual of “College Spring Break” which was still in its’ infancy, to millions of adolescents who had perhaps heard of… or never knew of… the springtime happening.
I mean look at Spring Break as it is today. ” My oh My ” !
I personally have no knowledge of any said events.
Look for the film on TCM
