Joni was born Roberta Joan Anderson at Fort Macleod, Alberta.
At age 9 she contracted Polio and during her recovery she learned guitar and began performing and entertaining her fellow patients.
In 1963 she began singing in and around Alberta and Saskatchewan as Joni Anderson and continued under that name as she relocated Toronto and became part of the folk/rock scene in most of the clubs.
In 1966 she signed with Reprise Records and began a life long career as she has released 27 albums to date.
In 1968 she changed her name to Mitchell when she married Chuck Mitchell, a folk singer, her career has continued to rise and she is still regarded as the “Grand Dame” of contemporary Folk/Rock.
She has won four Juno’s on nineteen nominations and nine Grammys.
Joni says, “I am proud that I am Canadian and I never forget where I come from”.
