Coeur de Pirate ‘s real name is Beatrice Martin and she is from Outremont, Quebec.

At an early age she was singing and writing songs, mostly in English because she thought that would be making a career in an English and hopefully becoming a great success.

At age fifteen she was the piano player in an English rock group named December Strikes First and she was writing English lyrics and forging ahead with her dream.

Beatrice wanted to stand out in some way and not just be “Beatrice the Piano Player”.

So, she changed her professional name to Her Pirate Heart because she thought people would ask and talk about the name. (Which they did.)

When she left the band to strike out on her own, she decided to record an album in French, so she changed her name to Couer de Pirate (Pirate Heart).

To date she has recorded three albums, won four Felix awards and a Juno nomination.

I think she has a long career ahead of her.
