Guy Lombardo and his band the Royal Canadians were from London, Ontario.
The words of Auld Lange Syne are attributed to Robbie Burns, but there is some proof that an older gentleman wrote the song (his name is lost to history) and that Robbie edited the song and combined it with an Irish Folk Melody. Auld Lang Syne traditionally means ‘Long Time Ago’ or ‘Long, Long Ago’ from the traditional Scots Gaelic.
The song was traditionally sung as a song of remembrance throughout the British Empire and especially on New Years as we remember family and friends living and passed away.
In 1938 Guy Lombardo played the song to bring in the New Year at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York city. The New York media went wild and ever since the U.S. plays the song at New Years and playing the song in films but because U.S. movies are all around the world, the song has been translated into a myriad of languages.
