Yes, it’s Christmas Eve

I know that most of you knew… that this song was

would be sent at some point.

Yes, it is my favourite of all Contemporary Christmas songs

“Baby, Please Come Home ” was first released in 1963.

Darlene was a teenage singer in the Motown stable.

She fronted for the “Crystals ” a girl group I liked,

and many more groups over the years when she worked

for Berry Gordy at Motown Records.

Berry is now 92 years old and he still consults on singers

He gave thousands of young singers and musicians the

opportunity of their lives when he signed them to Motown.

Darlene is just one example of the singers he pushed into Stardom.

Darlene’s powerful, magnificent voice is a treasured moment.

If you never had the pleasure of seeing her in concert, I can only

say that you missed something special.

When Letterman was on NBC with the Late Late show after

Johnny Carson, Darlene was the musical guest on the Eve of

Christmas Eve.

Paul Shaffer had a small band, Drums, Guitar, Bass, Sax,

and himself on Piano.

Darlene came out and sang ” Baby Please Come Home “

NBC’s switchboard lit up; telegrams poured into NBC

from all over North America.  100% loving Darlene.

For the next 28 years Darlene sang ” Baby Please come Home “

on Christmas week.  Fans, including myself anticipated Darlene

would sing the song on Letterman Christmas week.

Over the years the production of the song became more elaborate.

It became a Christmas tradition for me and I still play the song

on Christmas Eve since the day I heard it in 1963. The Letterman

show was just a bonus for me.
