Kathleen Edwards is from Ottawa, Ontario.
Her father, Leonard, was a Canadian diplomat and her formative years were a mix of cultures and adventures in Korea and Switzerland.
At age five, Kathleen began learning classical violin and studied violin for the next twelve years.
Kathleen took up guitar because her musical heroes Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty played guitar and she wanted to emulate and play their kind of music.
In 1999 she recorded a six song EP entitled “Building 55” and pressed five hundred copies.
By 2000 Kathleen was managing her own career and gigs and by 2003 she released her first album “Failer”.
To date Kathleen has had twelve nominations but only one Juno.
Her songs have been used on films and television programs. She has collaborated and written songs for numerous other artists such as Jim Cuddy and The Arkells just to mention a couple of artists.
Kathleen still lives in Ottawa.
