Gerry Rafferty from Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, U.K.
Raised in an Irish Catholic family, his mother taught him Irish and Scottish folk songs when he was learning to play guitar.
Gerry said his greatest influences were The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
His first Rock group was The Humblebums” who recorded one album and then Gerry recorded a solo album shortly thereafter.
Upon meeting Joe Egan together, they formed Steelers Wheel which had great success and recorded three albums, before striking out on his own to become a worldwide success.
“Baker Street” is one of finest rock songs ever recorded and Gerry always admitted that the saxophone sells the song.
Over the years Gerry has recorded 19 albums which includes both the bands that he was a member of.
Gerry passed away in 2011 from liver failure. He was a great talent.
Raphael Ravenscroft played the saxophone on “Baker Street” and he became one of the most in demand musicians in the music industry.
Sadly, Raphael passed away in 2014 from cancer.
