Producer, composer and lyricist, Paul O’Neill wanted to upgrade Classical music into the rock sphere and convinced Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli both from the band Savatage and keyboardist and producer Robert Kinkel to join him in this quest of upgrading

Classical music to the Star-Studded Realm of Rock.

Paul named the Band Trans Siberian Orchestra after the railroad in Siberia — “a symbol of hope” in a harsh and unforgiving place.

The band adds extra musicians on tour, the majority of whom are all Classically trained in the Classics.

In the beginning it was not easy for the group as one seemed to know how to classify them but by their second album the band was on it way to Stardom.

To date the band has released nine albums.

This particular track is called the “Christmas Canon” but in fact it is “Pachelbel’s Canon in D Minor” (one of my favourite pieces of music).

Merry Christmas to one and all.
