The Stone Poneys were formed at Los Angeles in 1965.
Linda Ronstadt, (Vocals Piano ) Bobby Kimmel ( Rhythm Guitar) and Kenny Edwards ( Lead Guitar ) as well as some studio Musicians.
Different Drum was written by Mike Nesmith of The Monkees.
The song became an instant hit.
From 1965 to 1968 the Stone Poneys released three albums, a collection of eclectic songs written, often by under-appreciated songwriters, requiring a wide array of backing musicians.
The Trio understood that their association would be short lived as the Stone Poneys were a launching pad into a more sophisticated platform of music and groups of the seventies.
Bobby Kemmel has been a successful musician and Studio musician for over 50 years and can be found on the summer festival circuit.
Kenny Edwards went on the road as an individual act singing Folk, Country, and Alternative country. He also worked a session musician on many other artists albums. He passed away in 2010.
Linda Ronstadt with her magnificent beautiful voice, released 24 albums over the years. She earned 11 Grammy awards, three American Music awards, two Country Music awards, an Emmy. An ALMA award, a Tony and a Golden Globe award. Linda was also given a National Medal of Arts and Humanities.
Different Drum is great song and Linda’s voice is so pure that when you hear it … you know she is a Star.
Linda retired in 2011 and at age 75 she lives quietly in Tucson, Arizona.
