This tune is just about perfect with its Beatle’s vibe and Folk-Rock sound and country lead.
The song was written by Gene Clark lead singer of The Byrds and released in 1965.
The title was “I’ll feel better when you are gone”. It can be found on their “Mr. Tambourine Man” album.
It features Jim McGuinn’s jangling 12 string Rickenbacker (a guitar favoured by George Harrison) and complex harmony singing with a country influenced guitar solo.
Originally the track was the B Side of “All I Really Want To Do”, but it began to have more air time as other guitarists and groups loved its almost perfect riffs and total sound.
In 1976 Don Nix released a cover of the song with George Harrison playing lead and he re-named the song by dropping the “I’ll” part of the title.
In 1989 Tom Petty released a cover of the song and The Heartbreakers hit the song with an almost perfect note for note rendition in this musical video.
“Feel Better” is one of the most covered songs in musical history and is on Billboards Top Songs of the 20th century.
I just love the song, and if you never heard of The Byrds, I suggest that you go and buy them all.
Enjoy
