The group formed at Los Angeles and is led by Alex Ebert.
The ten-member group takes its inspiration from Rock, Folk, Gospel and Psychedelic Music. Their image and sound evoke ‘The Hippie Movement’ of the sixties.
The name of the band is taken from a story that Alex wrote about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe.
To date the band has recorded four albums.
The band also operates a non-profit focused on funding and developing co-op’s and land trusts in urban area’s around the world.
