Steven Demetre Georgiou was born at London, England and is a singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist. He plays guitar, bass, mandolin, piano, organ and double bass.

He wanted an easy name to record under and his girlfriend at that  time said he had eyes like a cat. In a short while he became Cat Stevens.

Cat was always reading and studying and trying to make sense of the world and the events that were taking place all around him.

Raised a Catholic, he began studying Buddhism, Zen, I Ching, Numerology, Tarot Cards and Astrology looking for enlightenment.

Finally, he received a copy of the Koran and began to study in earnest.

In 1978 he converted to Islam and took the name Yusuf Islam.

He still records. He has twelve albums under Cat Stevens and three under Yusuf Islam.
