The Diamonds were formed at Toronto in the early fifties.
Meeting at a party one evening, the four men realized that they all had a love of music and singing.
Dave Somerville (Lead) Ted Kowalski (Tenor), Phil Levitt (Baritone) Bill Reed (Bass).

Rehearsing for eighteen months, they took a chance and headed for New York and the “Arthur Godfrey” Talent show and won fist prize, a small contract with Coral Records.
The group released four singles with Coral Records which brought them to the attention of Bill Randle who had already signed another Canadian group the Crew Cuts He signed The Diamonds to Mercury Records and took them under his wing.
Twelve albums and numerous hits followed. The group stopped touring in 1980 and performed mostly nostalgia shows until 2015 when Dave Somerville, passed away.
The Diamonds are in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The Doo Wop Hall of Fame and the Vocal group Hall of fame in Pennsylvania.
