Stanley Alison Rogers was born at Hamilton, Ontario and raised at Woodburn, Ontario.
His parents were from Guysborough, Nova Scotia and young Stan spent his summers and as much time as feasible in Nova Scotia, being influenced by the music of the area.
He began to learn traditional Canadian Folk songs and found that he had a love for the richness and texture of the music that storied those who came before us to build a nation from such a harsh and even cruel landscape.
Stan was hailed by people from all over the world. Fans who have a love for traditional music and the essence that the music entails.
On a journey home from a concert in Texas, the Air Canada plane that Stan was on began experiencing smoke in the cabin. The plane landed at Cincinnati, Ohio but it was too late
Nine passengers passed away, including Stan. He was just 33 years old.
Canada lost an amazing voice that day and the Music World took notice.
Each year at Canso, Nova Scotia the Stan Rogers music festival continues his music for all to hear and enjoy. Musicians and singers from all over the world came to Canso to play the music of Stan Rogers.
He recorded twelve albums in his short career, so his voice lives on.
This particular song is sung A Capella and is a traditional Canadian song.
It speaks of the harshness and beauty of our Country and the loneliness of those explorers who embarked on these incredible journeys.
I can only say, that if you are not moved by this song, and the stirring voice of Stan Rogers, then I can only assume that you are not with us anymore.
