The Dixie Chicks are from Dallas, Texas.

Natalie Maines (lead vocals, guitar), Emily Robinson (vocals, guitar) and Martie Maguire (vocals, violin).

The group was formed in 1986 and like many others struggled getting noticed, playing many small bars and summer festivals throughout Texas.

In 1995 they released their album “Wide Open Spaces” to critical acclaim and the group were catapulted into the limelight.

The U.S. enters the Iraq war and in 2003 in London, Natalie apologized to the British audience as well as a few choice words about the President.

In the U.S. a firestorm erupted and The Dixie Chick concerts were being cancelled all over the U.S. and their music was blacklisted on the radio.

The group soldiered on, with Canadian concerts and Canadian radio still playing their music as well it led them to Australia and New Zealand and then back to Europe.

The controversy took a toll on all three women and strained their relationship.

Time heals all and by 2006 The Dixie Chicks were once again back on U.S. radio and their concerts were once again selling out across the U.S.

The one good thing about the situation was that Natalie wrote a song “Not Ready to Make Nice” and it became one of their greatest hits.
