Susan Aglukark was born at Churchill, Manitoba but at age seven her family moved to Aroivat, Nunavat.
Susan had a normal childhood going to school and learning about her Inuit roots and traditions.
After university, she took a job with the Canadian Government in Ottawa with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. She liked her job as it gave her opportunity to influence legislation and understanding of the problems to Arctic communities.
Susan was given an opportunity to become an executive assistant with Inuit Tapirisat of Canada. A job she relished as it brought her home and gave her more power and contacts to showcase the importance and the challenges of Northern life.
In her spare time Susan began to sing folk and soft rock styles of music and then traditional Inuit songs. Susan became very popular among the northern communities.
Susan became so popular that she attracted the attention of the CBC, they included her on an album of Arctic performers.
By 1995 she released her first album “This Child” which included “O Siem”.
To date Susan has released nine albums and has garnered three Junos.
In 2004 she was awarded the Order of Canada.
