Diane Fortin was born in Quebec City, Quebec and began her singing career at church singing in the choir.
She studied voice and guitar at the Conservatoire de Music a Montreal as well as guitar at CEGEP St. Laurent.
She changed her name to Tell when she started singing professionally because she like the name and thought that the one syllable sound would help her in English Canada and the US as she thought that she would like to make a career fully developed in both languages.
I first encountered Diane at a club on St. Lawrence St. in Montreal. I was partying with some friends, flirting with some girls and the announcer introduced her and her band, she came out quietly, smiled and said hello to the crowd and I was awe struck. She was fabulous.
She has won seven Felix awards and a Juno nomination. She has recorded eighteen albums to date and I do not think she is going to slow down.
If ever you see her playing at some venue, I recommend that you buy a ticket.
Her shows are usually half French, half English.
