Although Hagood Hardy was born in Angola, Indiana (his mother was American and his father Canadian) he was raised in southern Ontario around the Hamilton area.
He found that music gave him a feeling of accomplishment and he pursued his musical studies at Trinity College University of Toronto and he studied with the great Gordon Delmont privately as well.
Hagood is primarily known as a pianist, but he played vibraphone and percussion as well.
He began playing with Jazz bands in and around Southern Ontario
He auditioned for Herbie Mann and was signed on as the vibraphonist and travelled the world learning and understanding music and recording.
He also played vibraphone and percussion for Martin Denny, Gigi Grace and George Shearing.
At some point he decided that he wanted to compose more classical and heartfelt music that would be enjoyed by people from all over the world to sit and listen easily.
In 1992 Hagood was made a Member of the Order of Canada. In 1995 he ran for the Ontario Provincial Liberals, but lost to Bob Rae who ran for the NDP.
In his career he released eighteen albums. His music is known and loved by people all over the world and is regularly played by contemporary orchestras on a regular basis.
He has won Junos and awards from many other nations as well.
He passed away in 1997 from Lymphoma.
