Nelly Kim Furtado was born and raised at Victoria, British Columbia.

Being Catholic, the family attended church every Sunday, where she began singing at an early age in the church choir.

At school she learned to play the ukulele (most students in B.C. learn the ukulele as a music subject).

Later she took up the trombone and then guitar and keyboards.

By age 12, Nelly was writing Lyrics for her own songs about her impressions of the world around her and her family.

During a visit to her sister Lisa Anne, who was studying in Toronto Nelly met Gerald Eaton of the Philosopher Kings a Hip Hop group and after hearing her sing he invited her to perform on their new album “Join the Ranks “.

After the recording she was asked to write ten songs for a new album and was shocked when it was revealed that the album “Whoa Nelly” would be her first album produced by the Philosopher Kings.

The album sold well and set Nelly on a course of a Solo career that continues to explode everywhere.

‘Try’ is such a good song and a great video exploring the hardships of women in the early years of our Dominion in a sanitized way.

Nelly’s exotic look amplifies her Iberian ancestry.

To date Nelly has released six albums.

This is just a great video.
