Buffy Sainte Marie is from Qu’Apple Valley, Saskatchewan, Plains Cree First Nation.

She is a singer/songwriter, musician, writer, actor and activist.

Although she is very active in First Nation rights Buffy has lent her name and reputation to many different Social Causes regardless of ethnicity.

Her only goal is Social Justice.

Buffy attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst earning a teaching degree and a degree in Oriental Philosophy.

In many ways Buffy was at the right place at the right time as she took up causes for Native Rights in the U.S. as she had in Canada.

Then came the Vietnam War and the Anti-War protests where is began to speak out against the war and she became a staple on the Anti-War Circuit encouraging anyone who would listen to speak out against the war.

Her reputation always proceeded her and she was always out front in all protests that she felt needed to be addressed by our societies.

Buffy has more Junos than she can count. She was awarded the Order of Canada plus she has garnered awards from all over the world for her music and activism.

Universal soldier is just one of many Canadian written songs that were sung on behalf of peace and equality in the U.S.
