Since St Patrick’s Day is this week, I thought that I would give everyone a head Start enjoying your favorite drink and Corn Beef and Cabbage.
In 1963, two Irish Immigrants to Canada met at a music event. Will Millar and Jimmy Ferguson, ended up singing and playing guitar. They had such a good time…they decided to form a band with Will’s Brother George and Will’s cousin Joe.
All were Immigrants to Canada.
Over the years the band grew from 4 to 8.
With three more Irish Immigrants and one from Scotland.
The band was named after the traditional Irish song “The Irish Rover “
They became popular throughout Canada and ended up with their own television show on the CBC. They also represented Canada in five World Expo’s.
Originally the band played Irish traditional music and then expanded into Country. Soft Rock, and Traditional Folk music.
Their music was so varied that in the end they Changed their name to ” The Rovers “.
Their music sold across Canada , the U.S. the U.K. the Commonwealth and yes… Ireland… North and Republic.
The band has released 42 albums over the years. The band is still active and as some of the original members have passed on they have been replaced with Canadian Musicians.
