Sarah Anne McLachlan was born to an unwed mother at Halifax, Nova Scotia.
She was given up and adopted by the McLachlan family.
The McLachlan’s were a musical family and sent young Sarah to voice lessons and classical piano and guitar training.
In her teens Sarah joined a rock band The October Game and began learning about presentation and performance to some modest success.
Sarah gave her first piano performance at Dalhousie University and caught the eye of Mark Jewett the head of Vancouver based Nettwerk a music and production company.
Mark offered her a contract, but suggested that moving to Vancouver would be an asset to her musical career. Her family insisted that Sarah finish her education first as she only had one year to graduate from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
In the meantime, she recorded some songs and graduated from College. By the time she landed in Vancouver her songs were getting great air play and selling well.
Nettwerk orchestrated her career and since then Sarah has taken on many projects to help young women in general and young Canadian girls in particular.
Sarah married her drummer Ashwin Sood and they have a daughter India Anne.
Sarah has opened the McLachlan School of Music in Vancouver and Edmonton, and there are plans to open more across the country offering under privileged children an opportunity to have a musical education as Grant or minimum cost.
She is a supporter of animal rights and has given generously to a variety of causes.
‘Wintersong’ is much like Canada, easy, cool, understated, proud and home.
To date Sarah has released nine albums
